I’ve said it over and over to clients. So many of us are looking for perfection. We need to be perfect so our lives will be perfect. This seems to be a great plan to prevent pain. We believe that perfection in everything is the perfect way to live. Unfortunately, the only thing perfect is the process. The journey will never be perfect. People we love will never be perfect, and of course, our own perfection is absolutely unattainable.
The process, however, is amazingly perfect when we let the Author and the Perfector of our Faith lead us. It is the process of refining and changing and growing that God accomplishes in us His amazing purposes.
God began my journey on July 8, 1994, which ended up being an amazing process. Oh, He had tried years and years before but there was too much static in my brain to pay attention. I was listening to the wrong voice. In my painful place, I finally raised my hands and said, “Uncle.” I was done. Finished. Couldn’t do “it” anymore.
It was in this place of surrender that I finally was able to say, “OK…whatever You require, I will do.” In a 12-year-old car filled with my clothes and other belongings, I left everything familiar behind. Following me in the other car was my sister. I had her goldfish. She had had her cat. We were the proverbial Thelma and Louise with a MUCH happier ending!
I am humbled looking back on the journey. In trying to hear His voice and with His amazing guidance, the process of Him moving me into His plans is beyond comprehension.
The people He brought into my life to help… amazing! Truly, “no plans of the Lord will be thwarted.” NO, the journey has NOT been perfect. However, His process has been flawless. I do not know how to thank Him ENOUGH!
