Wives World ~ The Trouble with Trauma ~ Triggers!

God tells us to live in each day…not being anxious about tomorrow or dwelling on the past.  The trouble with trauma is that is disrupts the process of being able to focus in on “today.”  If you’ve ever lived by a train track you know that you can eventually get used to the noise.  However there is no denying that the constant rumbling “is there.”  You may be used to it, but you are still aware of its presence.  The rumbling noise of the train may be fine…but then let the whistle blow and oooops…you are reminded once again there is a train in your backyard.

This is how I describe the effects of trauma.  Quieting down, truly, to a place of peace is really hard when you have the background noise.  You can “get used to it” but you never stop reacting to it.  So what others may perceive as a “one” on a scale of “one to ten” in importance, trauma causes us to respond as if we are in crisis and thereby invoking a level “ten” reaction to “normal.”

Living with unresolved trauma disrupts the peace in ones heart and causes the whole world to feel unsafe.  We react today as if we were “back there” right smack dab in the trauma.  This is a world of exhaustion and lack of peace.
