Wives World ~ The Most Destructive Three Words: “It’s Not Fair.”

“It’s not fair.”  I hear that a LOT.  Any person stuck in this mindset will be miserable, sad, hopeless, defeated and yes stuck.  One of the most important things we all need to learn in our journeys is that life simply is not fair.  All fairness stopped in the Garden of Eden.  Once the enemy came on the scene, all resemblance of “fairness” went off the road into the ditch.

The problem with constantly fighting against the unfairness of life is that you are using a lot of energy going against one of the most certain truths of humanity, the unfairness of the circumstances of life.  We constantly see bad things happen to good people and we see good things happen to bad people.

Living in Colorado my heart goes out to the almost 400 homes destroyed by the most devastating forest fire in Colorado history.  Watching the interviews of the devastated homeowners, I was amazed at how many in their shock and pain said, “this is so not fair.”  And of course, they were absolutely right.

When the fires of life come, maybe one the most common knee-jerk reaction will be “this is not fair.”  There is something in our humanness that just wants things to be balanced and right. Like all my stuck clients living in the bondage of victimhood because life has not been fair to them, I hope and pray somehow after the grief and pain of their loss, the homeowners will somehow recover from this devastating blow.

There are almost 400 “Job experiences” in Black Forest, Colorado today.  Each story will have its tragic measure of unfairness to it.  I pray they will know that God sees their pain and that He will in His own time and way bring them through this to the other side.  I hope they will read the Epilogue to Job…Job 42:7 and beyond… to know that God is the God of restoration and hope.  This too is a truth we can count on and believe in place of staying stuck as a victim to the circumstances of life.
